Man arrested for attempting to sexually assault nomadic girl in Kannur

Kannur: The Kannur City police on Thursday arrested a man for attempting to sexually assault a 25-year-old Rajasthani nomadic woman after trespassing into her roadside hut in Kannur.

The accused has been identified as Shaiju Joseph (30), a native of Cherupuzha. The incident took place around 2.30 am. Reportedly, the accused tried to attack the woman while she was sleeping.

Following which, she cried out loud waking up her husband and children. Meanwhile, Shaiju fled the place and the family lodged a complaint with the Town police.

As the woman told the police that she could identify the accused, the officials began an investigation and nabbed Shaiju from Kannur. He is an accused in several theft and robbery cases too, police said.

Shaiju, who was produced before the court, has been remanded. He has been booked under IPC 354 and 451.

The investigation was carried out by SI Dhanya Krishnan, senior civil police officer Sajith, CPOs Baiju and Roopesh, led by Kannur city inspector K Rajeev Kumar.
