Malaysia's Ringett tops foreign currency in Sabarimala donations
Sabarimala: Among the foreign currencies donated at Sabarimala temple by devotees, Malaysian Ringgit is ahead of other foreign currencies such as Singapore and US Dollars. More than one and half crores of Ringitt were from Tamil Nadu.
This year, currencies from other countries such as Poland (Zloti), Malavi (kwacha) and Ghana (cedi) also found its place in the donation box. Currencies Egypt, Myanmar, South Africa, Vietnam and Korea were also found in varying amounts. UAE Dirham is the most popular currency among the Gulf nations.
The foreign notes in the donation box will be counted and sorted in the presence Dhanalaxmi bank manager and Vigilance officer. This will be given to the highest bidder through an open tender via the four exchange houses in Ernakulam, said Dhanalaxmi bank manager Praveen. However, Assistant manager Rakesh said that these foreign coins cannot be converted to Indian Rupees.
