Trailer trucks parked at Adivaram
Thamarassery: “We are breathing a sigh of relief,” said Malayali trailer truck driver Swaminathan here on Thursday night, just hours before departing with his consignment to Nestle’s plant at Karnataka’s Nanjangud.
The man hailing from Palakkad’s Mannur had a 104-day-long wait due to the legal and geographical challenges that prolonged the delivery. His team finally received the approval to take the Thamarassery Ghat Road on Thursday night.
Though he and his counterparts visit their respective natives on a shift basis, for more than three months they have been at Adivaram. There was a hartal day in this period and they clearly remember how locals fed them that day.
Interestingly, Swaminathan, who has decades of experience in the vehicle, was handling the widest item of his career, a 17.5 feet-wide industrial chamber as the load in his truck. Along with Swaminathan, Tamil Nadu native Balamurugan also took a similar load to Nestle. Both work for Annamalai Transport company.
Also, Swaminathan and manager Prafulkumar are the only Malayalis in the team which handles the consignment to Nestle.
The two trucks passed the Ghat road at 2 am on Friday. Other traffic was restricted on the road for the smooth passage of their vehicles.
