Malayali student dies in bike accident in Puducherry; two injured

Puducherry: A Malayali student enrolled at Pondichery University died in a bike accident that left two others injured. The deceased was identified as Kozhikode Ramanattukara native Arunima Prem (22), a first-year M.Sc Computer Science student here at the university. Her classmates Abhirami and Vimal Vyas are currently undergoing treatment.

The accident took place late at night on Tuesday. The scooter on which the students were travelling hit a car near Bommayapalayam, the Puducherry-Tamil Nadu border. Arunima was rushed to JIPMER immediately, but could not be saved.

Kozhikode West Hill native Abhirami is undergoing treatment there and Vimal Vyas who sustained serious injuries is currently in the ICU of Pondicherry Government Hospital.

The parents of the students have arrived at the hospital upon hearing the news. Arunima’s body will be handed over to her relatives after post-mortem. The police have registered a case and started investigation. SFI Pondicherry University Unit expresssed condolences over Arunima's demise. Arunima is daughter of M K Premaraj and K P Shalini. Brother: Avnish Prem. The cremation will be held at her house on Thursday morning.
