Lieutenant Commander Dilna K, a Malayali lady officer of the Indian Navy, is preparing for a solo expedition to circumnavigate the globe in a yacht, second to do so after ace-yachtsman Abhilash Tomy.
Kozhikode native Dilna is one of the two female officers, the other being Lieutenant Commander Roopa, selected by the Navy for the epic adventure. On Tuesday, Union Minister Smriti Irani and Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, welcomed the lady officers in Goa following the completion of their training program. Dilna had undergone intense training for over half a year onboard INSV Tarini, a sailboat, in preparation for the challenge.

Dilna joined the Indian Navy in 2015 after five failed attempts. Though she had passed the interviews and medical tests, she had to return home due to the lack of vacancies. However, she never gave up and got selected on her sixth attempt.
Even before she joined the Navy, she had become an expert in archery and cricket. She was also part of the Navy's shooting team. Dilna reacted to Mathrubhumi News that she always wanted to do something new with her life.
Before joining the Navy, she was a part of the Kerala U-19 cricket team. Meantime, she also excelled in shooting and received full support from family and NCC.
