Malappuram: Muslim Youth League has come up with fresh allegation against Higher Education Minister K. T. Jaleel. They alleged that there was huge corruption in purchasing the land for Malayalam University in Tirur.
The land which was not suitable for construction was acquired for a huge sum, alleged Muslim Youth League state general secretary P. K. Firoz.
The report submitted by an expert committee at the National Green Tribunal (NGT) contains details of the corruption in purchasing the land for Malayalam University. The expert committee found out that the land belonged to the Coastal Regulation Zone 3 (CRZ-3). Following this, the tribunal pronounced a verdict that the land was unsuitable for any kind of construction. The government should make it clear why they purchased such a land for a huge price, Firoz demanded.
The land owned by relatives of Tanur MLA V. Abdul Gafoor and Lillys Gafoor, former LDF candidate in Tanur were also part of the deal. Minister K. T. Jaleel intervened and fixed the price of the land as Rs 16.63 crore. Out of this, Rs 9 crore has been allotted. The Department of Higher Education has demanded the remaining amount concealing the NGT verdict, Firoz alleged.
The land should be immediately taken back on the basis of the NGT verdict and an investigation should be conducted into the deal, Firoz demanded. He further asked how much money did K. T. Jaleel and CPI (M) receive through the corrupt land deal.
