Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam alphabets will reach students through leaflets or printed notes until the revised textbooks for the academic year are rolled out.
This decision was based on the recommendation tabled by an expert committee appointed by the government to make amendments to the Malayalam language. The government approved the committee's recommendations to partially revert to the old Malayalam script.
Chief Secretary VP Joy said that alphabets should be printed on special paper or cards in a convenient way so that it can be added to the textbooks. The Department of Education will be tasked to print the alphabet.
Mathrubhumi's 'Mayaruth, Malayalam' campaign provided the impetus to include alphabets in the textbooks.
