Malayalam actor Jagannatha Varma passes away
Thiruvananthapuram: Television and Malayalam film actor K N Jagannatha Varma,77, passed away on Tuesday at a private hospital in Neyyatinkara. He was ailing for some time with pneumonia and the end came at 8 am.
He began his movie stint with Maatoli and had acted in over 100 films. He had rendered the voice for the movie Sankarabharanam for Sankara Sasthry.
An accomplished Kathakali artist, he had acted in several Malayalm movies, famous among them being New Delhi, Lelam and Pathram.
Essaying different roles of a judge, police officer or a priest, he ventured into movies after quitting the Kerala Police Force.
Learning Kathakali from Kalamandalam Raman Namboothiri, Jagannatha Varma was also a percussionist and was born in Cherthala.
Among his well known films are, New Delhi, Lelam, Pathram, Nakshatrangale Sakshi, Sughamo Devi, Ee Thanuthe Veluppan Kalathu and No 20 Madras Mail.
At the age of 74, he made his 'arangetram' as Thayambaka artist and had said if age permits he would love to devote more time to the instrument.
His wife is Santha Varma and his son Manu Varma is a TV actor and daughter Priya who is married to Malayalam movie director Viji Thampi..
