Huge cache of explosives seized at Kondotty


Malappuram: Explosives including gelatin sticks, which were being smuggled in a lorry, was seized from Kondotty this morning. Police found a huge collection of explosives from a godown at Mongam in a search operation following this. Two persons were arrested in connection with the incident. The explosives were hidden in chicken droppings while being smuggled.

10,000 detonators, 10 tons of gelatin sticks and 10 packets of fuse wires were found in the raid by the police. But the actual figures of the explosives will come out only after the police complete the search. Police are also trying to find the owner of the godown. It is assumed that the explosives were brought to be used in quarries.

The police seized the explosives from a lorry in the wee hours of Wednesday, during a check conducted on secret information. The explosives were hidden in chicken manure that was kept in a sack. Two persons in the lorry was taken into custody by the police. The police found the huge collection of explosives from Mongam, in a raid carried out later.
