Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister KK Shailaja said that the death of the Malappuram native on Saturday early morning was not COVID-19 related. The minister revealed that the man died when he was coming back to his normal life after recovering from coronavirus disease. He had tested negative on the last three tests.

The patient was suffering from other diseases as well and that led to his demise. And since he had recovered from COVID-19, his funeral does not have to adhere to WHO protocol, said the health minister.

He suffered a heart attack three days back. Despite testing negative for coronavirus a week back, Veerankutty was kept under observation in Manjeri Medical College due to kidney related ailments.

VeeranKutty was diagnosed with COVID-19 on April 2. But the source of his disease is yet to be ascertained. Earlier it was assumed that he contracted the virus from his son, who had returned after Umrah. But later it was revealed that the son was not infected with the disease.
