Arm-wrestling champion, quiz winner, inspirer: Class 10 boy beats odds of cerebral palsy

Malappuram: For Amal, who was born with 90% disability, childhood days were an ordeal of medical treatments. But, his parents Iqbal and Femina always ensured to keep the hopes of the boy high. Many had considered Amal’s cerebral palsy a sad fate, but the family never gave up hopes and provided him with all available treatments. His father even quit his professional career abroad to take care of his son. He is also the one who designed a special wheelchair and toilet for Amal.

During childhood, Amal had to undergo more than 15 surgeries as part of his treatment. However, the resilience and the positive attitude of the family gradually rubbed on Amal. The boy was able to navigate through the difficult times of congenital disorder.

Years down the line, Amal is now a real inspiration for many. A boy who achieved the milestone of ability to talk in his fourth standard of schooling, became winner of various reading competitions and quiz competitions. He is now an arm-wrestling champion as well who contests in the general category. More than that he has emerged as a person who sensitizes children and parents in the cerebral palsy- affected spectrum.

During the COVID-19 lockdown period Amal acted in two short films like ‘Murikutty’and ‘Amal’. He also done rafting in Tejaswini river of Kasargod district in Kerala and Beas river in Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh.

Amal is a tenth grader and has two sisters Sam and Hima.
