Thiruvananthapuram: Reiterating the allegations levelled against IUML leader PK Kunhalikutty and his son, Thavanur MLA K T Jaleel raised questions on the alleged financial irregularities against them in Kerala Legislative Assembly too.
In the question and answer session of the assembly, Jaleel raised questions on the deposits of Kunhalikutty’s son in Malappuram AR Nagar Service Cooperative Bank.
He pointed out that the Reserve Bank has not given permission for NRE deposits in 1600 banks which were registered as agricultural loan providing cooperative societies. “AR Nagar Cooperative Bank falls under this category and NRE deposits are not allowed here. When this is clear, how one considers the deposits of his son in the bank are NRE deposits,” asked Jaleel in the assembly.
Jaleel asked in the assembly whether the bank received permission from Reserve Bank for NRE deposits or not. Replying to his question, the Minister for Cooperation VN Vasavan said, “Details are not available to answer the question now. It can be answered after collecting details on it.”
In the meantime, Opposition Leader, VD Satheesan, said that Kunhalikutty has not stated in the assembly that the deposits of his son in the bank come under NRE category. He also criticised Jaleel for raising such personal allegations in the assembly. Kunhalikutty also denied Jaleel’s allegation. “The money was transferred online through SBI account; it is not NRE deposit. Raising allegations by twisting facts cannot be admitted,” added Satheesan.
Jaleel also alleged that Kunhalikkutty laundered crores of black money in the veil of worshipping centers. Jaleel mulls approaching Enforcement Directorate with a petition to hold a probe on this.
