Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government is likely to launch its new liquor brand before Onam, said Beverages corporation (Bevco) MD Yogesh Gupta, here on Saturday. He said that the liquor would be named ‘Malabar brandy’.
Gupta said that they are expecting to launch the brandy by the end of April. The new liquor would be cheaper compared to the other brands, he added.
The liquor would be produced at Malabar Distillery in Chittoor. He added that Bevco has completed procedures including approval and tender formalities for the same.
‘Malabar brandy’ is being launched with the aim to address the unavailability of cheap brands in the market as well as to increase liquor production in the government sector. The construction of the factory will begin next month. Kerala Police Housing and Construction Corporation Limited is in charge of the construction.
Currently, Jawan rum manufactured at the Travancore Sugar and Chemicals Limited, Thiruvalla is the only liquor produced by the government. Gupta also said that the production of Jawan rum will be increased.
