Make govt schools centres of excellence, CM tells at ‘Pravesanolsavam’
Thrissur: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan executed the state-level inauguration of the ‘Pravesanolsavam’ (school reopening ceremony) at Chembuchira Government Higher Secondary School here on Thursday.
The chief minister stated that unlike the previous years, the new academic year for classes 1 to 12 started on the same day this year. From next year onwards, all classes from Plus One to Post Graduation will begin on the same day. This move is with the intention to avoid loss of academic days, he added.
The chief minister said that students who complete their studies from government schools should be capable to obtain higher education from the best institutions. Compromising with what we have presently will not lead to development. The schools should strive to improve their standard, he added.
Last year, 3.4 lakh new students joined classes in government schools excluding first standard. They wanted to quit private schools and join government schools. This year, more than 1.5 lakh students joined classes excluding first standard in government schools. This is the change we expected in our society, the chief minister said.
The educational institutions in government sector should improve academic excellence and develop the infrastructure. Government will help schools to attain the best level of development, the schools need not depend completely on the government. They can depend on public resources, alumni associations, PTA and other resources. With collective effort, we can make government schools centres of excellence, he added.
Along with wishing the students all success in future, the chief minister also reminded of the drug mafia who are targeting schools. These mafias intend to destroy the young buds. They are stronger than we imagine. The entire state should be part of a campaign against the drug mafia. Schools, education department, excise, police and all systems should unite in an effort to stop them. The government have designed strategies to get rid of them, he stated.
After the inauguration, the chief minister himself distributed the felicitation letter written by him to all students who joined Class 1 and 11 in Chembuchira Government Higher Secondary School.
