Major reshuffle in state bureaucracy: TK Jose appointed as home secretary
Thiruvananthapuram: In a major bureaucratic reshuffle in the top bureaucracy of the Pinarayi Vijayan government, senior IAS officer Dr Vishwas Mehta is appointed as the new chief secretary replacing Tom Jose who will retire soon. At present, Vishwas Mehta, a native of Rajasthan, is serving as additional chief secretary (Home).
Another major change in the top brass of bureaucrats is the appointment of revenue secretary Dr V Venu as planning board secretary. Dr Jayatilakan is appointed as revenue secretary after replacing Dr Venu. It is hinted that Dr Venu was removed from the post of revenue secretary due to government’s displeasure with him.
When Venu was serving as revenue secretary, he had differences of opinion with revenue minister. The government scorned Venu for implementing decision without the minister’s approval. Following the controversies related with the chief secretary, he was removed from the charge of Rebuild Kerala project.
TK Jose who is currently serving as PWD secretary has been appointed as the new home secretary. Fisheries principal secretary Ishita Roy is appointed as agriculture production commissioner. She was appointed to the new post as the official in charge was deployed for central government’s deputation.
Apart from this, various district collectors have also been changed. Thiruvanthapuram district collector K Gopalakrishnan has been appointed as the new Malappuram collector. Navjot Khosa will be the new district collector of Thiruvananthapuram.
It is reported that Gopalakrishnan was removed from Thiruvananthapuram after facing criticism over lifting the Aruvikkara dam shutters without alerting the public.
Alappuzha district collector M Anjana is transferred to Kottayam. The incumbent Kottayam collector M Sudheer will retire from service in May. Former labour commissioner A Alexander has been appointed as the new Alappuzha collector.
Reshuffle has been effected for IPS officials also. Transport commissioner R Sreelekha will be the new fire force chief as the post will fall vacant with the retirement of A Hemachandran. MR Ajith Kumar is appointed as the new transport commissioner.
