Mahila Congress leader booked for allegedly cheating Malalyali expat in US of Rs 14.6 lakh

Pathanamthitta: Mahila Congress leader Adv Vibitha Babu who unsuccessfully contested the local body polls in Mallappally division here has been booked for allegedly cheating a Malayali expat in the US of Rs 14.6 lakh.

According to the complainant Sebastian, 75, from Thiruvalla, Vibitha took money from him multiple times with the promise of returning it, which she did not keep.

Sebastian got in touch with Vibitha in connection with a land deal in Ernakulam. As their friendship grew, Vibitha reportedly sought financial help during the LSGD elections. He gave money to Vibitha’s father and she has not returned the money, reads the complaint.

Meanwhile, Vibitha too has lodged a police complaint against Sebastian, alleging that he misbehaved with her and tried to grope her at her office prior to his visit to the police station for filing complaint. Vibitha also alleged that hte hreatened of filing complaint if she was not ready to heed his terms.

According to Vibitha, a portion of the money received from the person was payment towards the legal advice he sought from her. While the remaining portion was a donation for charity related activities.

Apart from Sebastian, a person from Kottayam’s Kaduthuruthy has also been booked over Vibitha’s complaint.
