Mahe shrine’s annual festival begins

Mayyazhi: The annual festival (perunnal) of St. Theresa’s shrine in Mahe began with a flag-hoisting ceremony at 11:.30 am on Thursday. The flag was hoisted by Fr. Vincent Pulickal, following which the sacred idol of St. Teresa was taken out from the secret chamber and placed before the believers to seek blessings.

The ceremony was attended by thousands of devotees including, sub vicar Fr. Dilu Rafal, parish council secretary Rajesh D’silva, priests of Kozhikode and Kannur dioceses, parish council members among others.

On October 8, there will be a procession carrying St. Teresa’s idol followed by a ‘sayana pradakshinam’ (prostrated circumambulation) the next day. The 18-day festival will conclude on October 22 with the lowering of the flag.
