Madrasa teacher arrested for circulating fake audio clip of woman

Muhammed Shafi

Thiruvananthapuram: Police here on Thursday arrested a madrasa teacher for allegedly circulating a fake phone call recording of a woman to insult her. The accused is identified as Muhammed Shafi (24), a teacher in a madrasa under the Poovar Jamaat.

Shafi had been expelled from the post of teacher at the madrasa after a housewife filed a complaint with the mosque committee saying that he harassed her by calling her on phone.

As an act of revenge, Shafi reportedly made one of his friends call him posing as the housewife and recorded the call. He tampered with the call list too.

Shafi then shared the recording with many people including Jamaat. He also posted a video on Youtube defending himself and insulting the complainant.

Poovar police conducted an investigation into the matter and found that the call record was fake. Police informed that those who helped the accused to make the fake audio clip and people who spread it on social media would also be arrested.
