Madathil Varavu percussion lures viewers; Ilanjithara Melam awaited
Thrissur: The world renowned Thrissur Pooram festival has started exciting the people with the rhythm of Madathil Varavu Panchavadyam percussion led by Kongad Madhu. The arrival of smaller festival groups still continues.
Hundreds of Pooram admirers thronged the temple premises to watch the Panchavadyam percussion. After 12.30 pm, the procession ceremony of Paramekkavu Bhagavati will take place following which another famous round of percussion 'Ilanjithara Melam' will be staged.
Ilanjithara Melam is said to be the largest musical percussion event in the world. It is organised by the Paramekkavu group. The police have instructed the people to arrive early for witnessing the event.
This will be the 21st time Ilanjithara Melam taking place under the leadership of Peruvanam Kuttan Marar. The globally acclaimed ‘Kudamattam’ (show of differently designed umbrellas) will take place at East Gopura Nada at 5.30 pm.
