M. V. Shreyams Kumar to continue as LJD state president; office bearers pledge support

Thiruvananthapuram: A meeting of Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) office bearers dismissed the party central leadership’s decision to remove its Kerala unit president M. V. Shreyams Kumar from the post.

The meeting held on Thursday attended by LJD’s state office bearers, district presidents and presidents of its fostering organisations announced full support to Shreyams Kumar. The online meeting was summoned as soon as the central leadership took the decision.

Shreyams Kumar was elected president in a meeting held at Palakkad which was attended by Arunkumar Srivastava as an observer from the central leadership. The decision was approved by the party’s state council and state committee.

The meeting observed that changing the party president at a time when there is no problem within the organisation without consulting the state leadership will only weaken the outfit. Such actions, at a time when preparations for the local self-government polls are under way, will only create confusion among the cadre.

Meanwhile, considering the unanimous request of the cadre, Dr. Varghese George refused to take charge as the party state president. He also informed the central leadership and Shreyams Kumar that he would continue as the nation general secretary.

The meeting also decided to inform the central leadership to withdraw the order and take steps to let Shreyams Kumar continue as the party state president.
