M. Sivasankar aided gold smuggling gang; accepted bribe in Life Mission, says ED charge sheet

The UAE consulate general had handed over Rs 1.8 crore as commission for Sivasankar in connection with the Life Mission flat project in Wadakkancherry, the charge sheet said.

Kochi: The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday submitted the charge sheet against Chief Minister’s former principal secretary M. Sivasankar.

The charge sheet submitted at the ED special court said that Sivasankar knew about gold smuggling through diplomatic baggage and dollar smuggling. The ED also said that the IAS officer had accepted bribe in Life Mission project.

The ED said that Sivasankar involved with the gold smuggling gang after knowing their operations. The UAE consulate general had handed over Rs 1.8 crore as commission for Sivasankar in connection with the Life Mission flat project in Wadakkancherry, the charge sheet said.

The charge sheet also mentioned the statements of Swapna and Sarith. Most important among them is that Sivasankar had leaked contracts in connection with Life Mission to Swapna. These contracts went to two private companies, the charge sheet added.

The ED also submitted an additional charge sheet in connection with the black money transactions in the gold smuggling case.

The ED charge sheet was submitted before the completion of 60 days after Sivasankar’s arrest was recorded. The charge sheet, which included statements of witnesses, was submitted in three volumes.
