Thiruvananthapuram: M P Veerendrakumar has been elected to the Rajya Sabha. The Kerala Assembly voted for its one RS seat on Friday. Veerendrakumar secured 89 votes. One vote of the LDF was made invalid.
The ruling party has 90 MLAs while the UDF has 41 legislators. From the LDF side, 90 votes were polled.
Babu Prasad of the United Democratic Front (UDF) polled 40 votes. The vote of T A Ahmed Kabir was not recorded.
There are a total of 139 members in the Assembly and 130 members voted. 9 members did not vote including the KC (M) members.
Veerandra Kumar had earlier resigned from his seat in December after Nitish Kumar joined the NDA. The Veerendra Kumar-led JD(U) also severed its ties with the UDF in Kerala. Veerendra Kumar had filed his nomination for the RS seat on March 12.
