Kalpetta: Managing Director of Mathrubhumi and Rajya Sabha member MP Veerendra Kumar, was laid to rest with full state honours here on Friday at 5 pm.

The funeral was held according to Jain traditions at his residence at Puliyarmala. Last rites were performed by his son and Mathrubhumi Joint Managing Director M. V. Shreyams Kumar.

Veerendra Kumar passed away on Thursday night at a private hospital in Kozhikode following a cardiac arrest. He was 84.

His body was taken to his residence at Chalappuram in Kozhikode on Thursday night and to his native place at Puliyarmala, Kalpetta in Wayanad district on Friday.

The body was kept at his residence for public homage till 4 pm. State Ministers, the general public and a slew of journalists paid floral tributes to Veerendra Kumar's mortal remains.

The funeral was held adhering to COVID-19 protocols.
