Malappuram: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Wednesday announced M.C. Kamarudheen as UDF’s bypoll candidate for Manjeswaram. The official announcement was made by IUML state president Panakkad Sayed Hyderali Shihab Thangal.
Earlier, when Kamarudheen’s name was suggested, Youth League officials in Manjeswaram had publically expressed their opposition. However, Shihab Thangal said that a final decision was taken after discussions with Youth League and others.
Kamarudheen is the IUML Kasaragod district president. Earlier, Youth League had suggested its leader A.K.M Ashraf as the candidate. Youth League leaders had cited Ashraf’s influence among local residents and his ability to handle the local language as strengths.
