Aluva: A teenager who jumped into the Periyar river here to save his friend drowned. The deceased is Perumbavoor native Gautham. He was 17.
The incident happened on Wednesday night. He had come to the Marthanda Varma Bridge to console his friend who was heartbroken due to a love failure. She jumped into the river while talking to him. Gautham also dived to save her.
The fishermen who saw them falling into the river recovered both of them and rushed them to the hospital. But they could not save the life of Gautham.
He was a plus one student.
