Lost Pala bypoll because of P.J. Joseph, says Jose Tom
Kottayam: United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Jose Tom Pulikunnel on Saturday alleged that P.J. Joseph is responsible for the debacle in Pala assembly bypoll. Addressing a press conference at Pala, Joe Tom came sharply criticised the Kerala Congress (M) leader.
“P.J. Joseph’s agenda was implemented during the election. Jose K Mani will have an upper hand in the party if the number of MLAs increase. Joseph tried to prevent this,” said Jose Tom.
Stating that he had requested Joseph for the two leaves symbol, Jose Tom said he contested the bypoll as an independent candidate because the symbol was not granted to him.
“Many leaders from the Joseph faction did not take part in the campaign activities. Moreover, they gave the wrong message to the people. Joy Abraham’s statements created problems. Joseph could have controlled such incidents,” Jose Tom said.
“It was the Joseph faction which said that I was not a follower and that I do not go to the church,” the UDF candidate added.
“When I lost the election, Joseph addressed the media with a smile. When party workers booed Joseph during the UDF convention, Jose K Mani reprimanded them,” Jose Tom said and added that P.J. Joseph was not his leader.
Jose Tom’s statements comes after P.J. Joseph said that Jose K Mani was responsible if the lack of two leaves symbol had led to UDF’s debacle in Pala assembly bypoll. Joseph said he would have granted the symbol had they requested for it according to the party bylaw.
