Kochi: Mohammed Shafi, a lorry driver, has been named as the first accused in Kolenchery rape case, in which an elderly woman was brutally raped. The second accused Manoj also assaulted her physically, said Muvattupuzha DYSP Mohammed Riyas.
The third accused, Omana, is the mother of Manoj. She intentionally brought the 75-year-old victim and facilitated the crime. The DYSP stated that police is investigating whether more people are involved in with the case.
The victim’s condition is stable now and is currently admitted in the ICU of Kolenchery Medical College after a surgery.
Mohammed Shafi, Omana and her son Manoj were arrested on Tuesday. Mohammed Shafi was arrested from a hideout in Pangode with the help of locals.
