Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president K Sudhakaran slammed Kerala government for collecting “staggering amounts” of up to Rs 82 lakhs for participating in the Loka Kerala Sabha events held in the USA.
He said that huge amounts of money were extorted from people by offering them a seat beside the Kerala CM at the gala event. The veteran Congress leader came down heavily on the CPM stating that corruption was in the party's DNA.

“I would rather suggest the CM pay a visit to the neighbouring state of Karnataka to draw some inspiration, instead of travelling to a capitalist country like America or a dilapidated communist country like Cuba,” said the Member of Parliament.
Sudhakaran asked Pinarayi to learn a lesson or two from Siddaramaiah, the newly elected Karnataka CM, “who has introduced several progressive measures, within weeks of assuming office.”
Appreciating Siddaramaiah’s decision to not to disrupt/halt traffic while he travels by road, the MP pointed out that it was in stark contrast to Kerala CM’s luxurious convoy of 40 vehicles, which often created traffic blocks in the state.
In his speech, K Sudhakaran criticised Pinarayi Vijayan’s decision to visit Cuba.
“Cuba is nothing but a communist nation in a pathetic condition. The citizens of the country have been struggling for food, medicine, and electricity over the last couple of years. They have been fighting against the government which denied them basic democratic rights,” he said.
Questioning Pinarayi’s intentions behind visiting Cuba, the Congress MP said that several youngsters of the conflict-hit country are being put in jail, for questioning the atrocities of the government.
He also reminded the gathering that Cuba was ranked 172 in the World Press Freedom Index, which is worse than India.
“These CPM leaders of Kerala spend their lifetime attacking America and its capitalistic values, but strangely it is the same country they choose to go on a vacation or send their children for higher studies. Can anyone explain this to me?” Sudhakaran asked the crowd.
He also wished that Pinarayi’s upcoming international trip proves beneficial to the state "unlike his previous trips to Norway and Netherlands."
