Thiruvananthapuram: Upa Lok Ayukta Harun-Ul-Rashid questioned the government's hasty move to bring Lok Ayukta Amendment Ordinance in the sight of summoning the legislative assembly. He also observed that the unplanned utilization of the distress triggered criticism against the government.
Lok Ayukta Justice Cyriac Joseph condemned that no governments lag in distributing the fund from the treasury irrespective of deserved and undeserved beneficiaries. Lok Ayukta and Upa Lok Ayukta made these comments while considering a petition alleging misuse of the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.
Government attorney TA Shaji argued that the decisions taken by the ministry can be considered only as a collective responsibility and it could not be questioned. He also demanded to reject the plea.
The petitioner’s lawyer defended the argument by presenting the Supreme Court orders which point out that the courts have the authority to question the illegal decisions taken by the ministers individually or collectively. Further hearing of the case will be held on March 18.
Former syndicate member of Kerala University RS Sasikumar had approached Lok Ayukta against 18 ministers including the Chief Minister. The petitioner also alleged nepotism in the distribution of money from CMDRF.
