Kochi: City Police Commissioner and state level nodal officer of COVID resistance activities Vijay Sakhare said COVID transmission can be stopped only if lockdown is strictly implemented in containment zones. If issues of food scarcity arises, grocery stores in containment zones can be opened. People in the area will get essential supplies and medicines, he added while responding to the media here.
The SPs are mainly responsible for COVID resistance activities. The police will concentrate on stopping the disease transmission. We have to get maximum output using minimum resources. We have a strategy for this including compulsary quarantine, tracing source and marking containment zones with accurate target, he said.
Lockdown should be strictly imposed in containment zones in order to effectively put an end to the disease transmission. If a person becomes primary or secondary contact, their family members also should stay at home. There will be many primary and secondary contacts within the containment zones. So, imposing lockdown there will help stop disease transmission, he explained.
If there are any issues regarding food supply, grocery stores in containment zones can be opened. But we have to give importance to maintaining social distancing and home delivery. People should depend on telemedicine system to avoid visiting hospitals, he added.
