Lockdown to be enforced in regions with WIPR above 8 in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed in the COVID review meeting that complete lockdown will be implemented in regions where the Weekly Infection Population Ratio (WIPR) is above 8. Earlier, the lockdown was implemented in regions with WIPR above 10. There were around 266 wards that were included in this category. The new restrictions will come into force from Thursday.
The chief minister said that the number of micro containment zones will be increased by over 50 percent in the districts where WIPR is above 14. In total, 15,000 people will be allowed entry into the Sabarimala temple per day. When the temple opens on August 15, people who have administered both doses of the vaccine and the ones with COVID negative test obtained within 72 hours will be allowed entry.
The CM also informed that no public observation of festivals or mass gatherings will be permitted during Onam. There will be restrictions on the beaches. Only the ones with licenses will be allowed to engage in street selling. Meetings of merchants will be convened on the basis of their local bodies. If there are various local bodies within a police station limit, meetings will be held separately.
Curbs eased to visit shops
The CM added that it has come to notice that some people who haven’t received the vaccine or can’t receive the vaccine due to certain diseases need to go to shops to buy essentials. They are permitted to go to shops, if there is no one else who can do so in their family. They should be given special consideration and the shopkeepers should take care to provide home delivery service for such people.
A unified rate will be decided for RT-PCR tests for people arriving at the airport to travel abroad. Arrangements have been made to distribute 20 lakh doses of vaccine to private hospitals. The CM emphasised that the distribution of the vaccine to various hospitals must be decided beforehand and that local bodies must make necessary arrangements to provide the vaccines.
