Lockdown extension: Amit Shah calls Kerala CM seeking opinion

The major demand put forward by the state is not to withdraw the lockdown all at once.

Thiruvananthapuram: Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah called Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to seek his opinion about extending COVID lockdown. Amit Shah called Pinarayi Vijayan over phone and sought the opinion of the state. The chief minister told Amit Shah that the lockdown should be withdrawn step by step.

The chief minister also handed over the opinion of the state in writing. The present condition of the disease transmission in the state, the method of withdrawing lockdown, financial assistance and other matters are informed to the union home minister.

The major demand put forward by the state is not to withdraw the lockdown all at once. Exemptions can be given in places other than the hotspots. But revoking the lockdown norms in one go can result in adverse effect. The state had raised this opinion earlier also, and repeated the same to the union minister.
