Urumi: Locals rescued youngsters who were stranded after going for a dip in the Urumi river. Malappuram natives Ihsan, Bahir, Afsal, Akbar and Mirsab were rescued by the locals after getting trapped in the middle of the river due to flash floods.

The trio went to the river by noon the other day. By evening, the rains strengthened and a flash flood occurred. The youths then climbed over a huge rock in the river for safety. When the water level of the river rose further, the youths shouted out loud and caught the attention of the locals who were nearby. Soon, the fire and rescue officers, Koodaranji grama panchayat officials and Thiruvambady police were informed about the matter.

The youths were brought back to land with the help of ropes. The rescue mission was headed by Thiruvambady police sub-inspector Ramya. The youths were charged a fine, given a warning, and sent home with their parents.
