Locals beat up two men after boy cooks up kidnap story
Kondotty: Police here registered an attempt to murder case against 40 people for manhandling two men after a 15-year-old schoolboy lied to them that the duo tried to kidnap him.
The two men, Rahamatulla of Vazhakkad and Safarulla of Kondotty, both in their mid-20s, were critically injured and are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. A detailed inquiry into the incident revealed that the boy had cooked up the kidnap story as he was afraid of not scoring good marks in the examination held at his school.
The incident took place here in Malappuram district on Monday morning. The boy reportedly informed local residents that two men who came in a car tried to kidnap him when he was waiting for a bus on his way to school.
Following this, the local people searched CCTV footages from the area and the boy pointed them out the car in which the kidnappers reportedly travelled. The residents then informed the police and started searching for the car.
Based on the CCTV footage, police asked Rahamatulla and Safarulla to come to the Vazhakkad station for questioning. The two promised to reach the station within an hour.
While travelling to the police station in a car, local residents waylaid Rahamatulla and Safarulla at Omanallur. The locals pulled the two out of the vehicle. On seeing the two men, the boy reportedly said that they were the ones who tried to kidnap him. On hearing this, the local severely beat up the two men.
Rahamatulla and Safarulla said that initially three men beat them up following which over 100 people thrashed them. They also complained that the mob continued to beat them up even after police reached the spot.
