Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation ((KSWDC)) on Saturday issued a media release refuting communal appeasement allegations against its loan schemes.

According to KSWDC, many on social media are propagating a narrative that the body has been sanctioning loans to women in a particular religious group. The spin is that women in the general category and Hindu community are not sanctioned loans, the release noted.

KSWDC stated that such allegations are baseless and that strict actions will be taken against those spreading fake narratives on social media.

KSWDC in the release elaborated on the various loans to explain the context. KSWDC is acting as channelising agency of various financial corporations (BCFDC, NMDFC, NSFDC, NSTFDC, NSKFDC)) under the central government. The loan-related schemes (personal/self-help) of this financial corporation are also handled by KSWDC. Both state and union governments are contributing funds for these schemes and “the loans are being distributed for women under backward, minority, SC/ST and hygiene workers segments,” it said.

KSWDC release specifically noted that no financial corporations under the union government have loan schemes for individuals in the general category. However, the KSWDC has loan schemes for women in the general category. Both the funds of the state government and KSWDC have been used for the same. 4,551 women in the general category were sanctioned loans worth Rs 84.5 crore under those schemes, the release said.
