Life Mission row: Contract signed by UAE consul general not Red Crescent

The Red Crescent and the Life Mission CEO on behalf of the government signed the contract for the financial assistance for the flat construction in Wadakkanchery in July 2019.

Thiruvananthapuram: The details of the Wadakkanchery Life Mission project contract has come to light. It is revealed that instead of Red Crescent officials, the UAE consul general signed the contract to construct flats and hospital in Wadakkanchery as part of the project.

The Red Crescent and the Life Mission CEO on behalf of the government signed the contract for the financial assistance for the flat construction in Wadakkanchery in July 2019. However, it has come to light that a sub-contract also was signed in addition to this. The UAE consul general in Kerala signed this sub-contract instead of the Red Crescent officials. It was signed on July 31, 2019.

The contract was entered for constructing about 140 apartments in a place under Thalappally taluk. The flats were of 500 square feet area. Unitac was selected for the construction works through tender procedures, it is noted in the contract. Unitac and UAE consulate signed the contract equivalent to 70 lakh UAE dirhams.

Along with this, there is another contract for building a hospital for mothers and children near the flat. The contract for this was given to St Ventures company in Ernakulam. This contract is worth 30 lakh dirhams. The UAE consul general signed this contract also. The documents shows that this company also was selected through tender procedures.
