Kochi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday filed a chargesheet against Swapna Suresh in connection with the alleged violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act in the LIFE Mission project. The chargesheet has been submitted before a special court here. Swapna has been named as the second accused in the case. The chargesheet has not sought her arrest, said reports.
ED earlier had claimed that M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, is the kingpin. The chargesheet claimed that Sivasankar is the person who received the bribe and he has parked the amount in the bank account of another accused Swapna Suresh.
Meanwhile, Kerala High Court recently noted that the probe was at an initial stage in the case and many accused, including Swapna Prabha Suresh, are yet to be arrested. "Why the prosecution is delaying the arrest of Swapna Prabha Suresh is also a matter of serious concern, though she had an active role in the present crime,” it had asked. The chargesheet filed reiterates that Sivasankar is the kingpin.
ED had arrested Sivasankar and Unitac Builders Managing Director Santhosh Eapen and in the case.
