Thrissur: Minister for Local Self Government A. C. Moideen stated that MLA Anil Akkara was spreading lies in connection with Wadakkanchery Life Mission project. The lies are spread in view of the upcoming local body polls, he added.
"Shameless people can say anything. A public representative, who did not do anything for the constituency, is raising allegations to hide his shortcomings, the Minister alleged.
Life Mission project is a popular scheme in which various sources from NGOs to central government funds are utilised. No such housing project was initiated during the tenure of UDF government, the Minister stated.
Life Mission is implemented in three phases. In the first phase, assistance will be provided to those who cannot complete construction of houses. 96.5 percent of this stage has been completed. In the second phase, houses are constructed for those who own land and in the third phase, homeless people with no land are included in the scheme.
As part of the project, apartment complexes are built by the government, public sector companies or local bodies on land contributed for this purpose. As a first step, flats were provided to 217 families in Adimali in Idukki. Tender procedures for the project were completed at 41 places. Foundation stone will be laid by the Chief Minister this week.
The project has already started in Perinthalmanna under the direct supervision of Perinthalmanna municipality. The land in Wadakkanchery also was acquired in the same way and the tender procedures were also transparent, the Minister said.
A. C. Moideen added that he does not know the Unitac company, which was entrusted by the Red Crescent.
