Palakkad: The leopard which posed a threat to residents of Dhoni for months finally fell in the trap set by forest officials. The 3-year-old male leopard got entrapped in the cage placed near the house of Vettam Thadathil Liji Joseph at 3.30 am on Friday. The leopard had killed chicken twice from Liji’s house and has reached the place for the third time. After providing primary health care, the leopard was released into the Parambikulam forest range.

When the forest officials placed a cage near Liji’s residence, a hen was also kept inside it to attract the leopard. The leopard which reached here early morning surveilled the poultry cage and tree top from where it killed the chicken earlier. These visuals were captured clearly in the CCTV camera installed behind the house. Later it was entrapped when it entered the cage set up by the forest officials.

Panchayat vice president of Puthupariyaram S Unnikrishnan was injured while shifting the cage. His right middle finger was severed during shifting of the cage when the leopard attacked him.
