Kozhikode: M P Veerendra Kumar is a leader who was born in a rich family but fought for the poor always through his writing and speech for many decades. The protest held at Plachimada in Palakkad against depleting of groundwater by the multinational corporate company Coca-Cola is only one of such struggles.
Apart from directly involving in the protest, he also associated his newspaper with the strike. He made it clear that no matter how much loss his company faces, he would not let MNCs deplete water resources in Kerala. Though he owned a very vast area of farm land, he stood up for the welfare of farmers and wrote in favour of them.
Veerendra Kumar also spoke and wrote for the common people, labourers and farmers in many platforms including the assembly, parliament, International Labour Organization and other public platforms. He intervened in social issues without even thinking if anyone would support him in the struggle. Later, many leaders joined him in the protests. He was an active presence at human right protests as well.
