Kottayam: The LDF surge in Kerala local body elections saw UDF losing its stronghold Puthuppally panchayat after 25 years.

Puthuppally, which is the hometown of former chief minister and senior Congress leader Ommen Chandy, has been a UDF stronghold for many years.

LDF won 7 seats while UDF won 6 and BJP in 3. Two LDF-backed independent candidates also won here.

In 2015, Congress had won Puthupally panchayat with victory in 11 seats.
