LDF wins Kalamassery ward after 25 years; UDF wins Pullazhi ward in Thrissur

LDF secured victory in the sitting seat of Muslim League. Earlier, UDF won the administration of Kalamassery Municipality through lucky draw after both fronts were tied with 20 votes each.

Kochi: LDF candidate registered victory in ward number 37 of Kalamassery Municipality in the Local Self Government bypoll. Rafeeq Marakkar, an independent candidate who contested for LDF, won by 64 votes.

LDF secured victory in the sitting seat of Muslim League. Earlier, UDF won the administration of Kalamassery Municipality through lucky draw after both fronts were tied with 20 votes each. LDF expects to capture the administration with Rafeeq’s victory.

UDF has been winning this seat for the past 25 years.

Rafeeq secured 308 votes while UDF candidate Salim got only 244 votes. The BJP candidate managed to get only 13 votes.

The elections were held in 7 wards. UDF won in Pullazhi ward of Thrissur Corporation. UDF’s K Ramanathan won with a majority of 998 votes.

While K Ramanathan bagged 2052 votes, LDF candidate Advocate Madathil Raman received 1049 votes and NDA candite got 539 votes.
