Kottayam: The no-confidence motion against the Kottayam municipality chairperson Bincy Sebastian planned by opposition LDF may not be moved in the council meeting. BJP has decided to boycott the motion. Earlier, UDF also decided to stay away. With this, the LDF cannot ensure quorum in the meeting.

The BJP announced the decision to boycott the meeting on Monday morning after consultation with the state committee. BJP says that it does not want to be part of any move to install LDF or UDF in power.

LDF and UDF had 22 members respectively in the 52-member council. One UDF member passed away recently. BJP has eight.

A minimum of 27 members has to be present to start the meeting. Also, 27 votes is required to pass the motion. LDF has to wait another six months to move a fresh no-confidence motion.

This is the second no-confidence motion against Bincy by the LDF. She had to resign the first time after the motion was passed. However, in the contest for the chairperson position followed by that, both fronts polled 22 votes each and Bincy was re-elected by lot. BJP had backed the LDF in the motion, but not in the election.
