LDF to move no confidence motion against Kochi mayor Soumini Jain
Kochi: The LDF will move a no confidence motion against Kochi corporation mayor Soumini Jain here on Thursday. Meanwhile, the UDF has decided to give the no confidence motion discussion a miss.
Ernakulam DCC president T.J. Vinod told Mathrubhumi News that the UDF has decided that its councillors need not attend the proceeding in the corporation. “We have rejected the no confidence motion being moved by LDF and decided not to take part in the proceedings,” he said and added that changing the mayor was not in the agenda of the Congress at present.
In the 74 member Kochi corporation council, UDF has the support of 38 members. The LDF has 34 members while BJP has 2.
UDF is playing safe by asking its councillors not to take part in the motion discussions in the corporation. There are reports of opposition against Mayor Soumini Jain from within the Congress. Hence, UDF feels that refraining from the proceedings will work in their favour.
On the other hand, LDF will move the no confidence motion against Soumini Jain with corruption allegations as its spearhead. If UDF refrains from the motion discussion, LDF will turn that into another political weapon against Soumini Jain and the UDF.
The district Collector will preside over the no confidence motion discussion. If UDF councillors refrain form the proceedings, the collector may decide to postpone the matter.
