Kannur: As A Vijayaraghavan has been inducted into the CPM politburo, Left Democratic Front in Kerala will get a new convenor. The central leadership had insisted that the new PB member must work in New Delhi as S Ramachandran Pillai is leaving.

AK Balan and EP Jayarajan are the two probables to replace Vijayaraghavan in the powerful position.

Vijayaraghavan. in a rarity, handled the position of party state secretary along with LDF convenor post for one year. It was a crucial period as the first Pinarayi Vijayan government was going through the biggest controversies of its period and also with the local body and the assembly polls. Vijayaraghavan handled the controversies well, without falling for emotional reactions.

Vijayaraghavan started his political career through students organisation. He has been SFI state secretary and national president. He is currently the All India Agricultural Workers Union general secretary. He represented Palakkad in the Lok Sabha in 1989. He was elected to the upper house in 1998 and 2004. He is one of the few leaders who continued in the RS for two consecutive terms.

Though he contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Kozhikode, he lost to MK Raghavan.
