Thiruvananthapuram: Overcoming all the controversies and allegations, LDF turned victorious in the local self-government polls. The Left marched towards victory by destroying the centres held by UDF.

Now, Kerala is looking forward to the Assembly polls as it will be influenced by the LSG poll results.

Responding on the LSG poll results, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the victory marks the trust and confidence of the people of Kerala in LDF.

UDF, who lost their expectations, could only gain majority votes in municipalities. LDF won seats in the three-tier panchayats as well as corporations.

Though BJP improved their status, they failed to have an impressive victory.

BJP who marked their entry to a single municipality in 2015 has won two municipalities in this polls Palakkad and Pandalam. Compared to last polls, BJP won the majority in 23 grama panchayats. In 2015, BJP had won majority seats in 12 grama panchayats.

Political changes favour LDF

LDF gained from the recent political changes in Kerala. The entry of Jose K Mani led Kerala Congress and Loktantrik Janata Dal to LDF helped the front to win votes in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts where UDF had held power.

After 30 years, LDF seized power in Puthupally panchayat, the hometown of Congress leader Oommen Chandy.

In most of the places of prominent UDF leaders, similar situation was reported.

It is examined that UDF’s alliance with the Welfare Party did not favour them to win votes in the polls.
