Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF has recommended the Kerala government to increase the water tariff in the state. In a meeting held on Friday, the LDF urged the government to increase the tariff by 1 paisa per plitre.

Minister for Water Resources, Roshy Augustine, had raised the demand in the meeting. The water authority has arrears of Rs 2391.89 crore and the department is unable to pay the salaries of the employees.

LDF convener EP Jayarajan pointed out that paying the leave surrenders of employees would not be possible due to financial constraints.

The LDF has also urged the government to take a common stand in the higher education sector.
