LDF Government sworn in
Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF cabinet headed by Pinarayi Vijayan has sworn in on Wednesday afternoon.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the special venue set up at the Central stadium here.
Pinarayi Vijayan sworn in as the 22nd Chief Minister of Kerala. Governor P Sathasivam administered oaths of office to Pinarayi and his 18 cabinet colleagues -- 11 from the CPI-M, four from CPI, and one each from the Congress-S, Janata Dal (S) and the Nationalist Congress Party.
Departing from tradition, this was the second time that the swearing in ceremony was held outside the Raj Bhavan complex -- the official residence of the Kerala Governor.
Earlier, Chief Secretary S M Vijayanand received Pinarayi Vijayan and other minister-designates who arrived at the venue around 3.50 pm.
A pandal that could accommodate 2,500 persons was set up at the stadium. Facilities were arranged for 25,000 people to watch the event from th gallery.
Televisions were installed outside the stadium for those who could not make it to the venue. Also TVs were placed at Palayam and Statue for the live telecast of the swearing-in ceremony.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, former general secretary Prakash Karat, former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, CPM leader V S Achuthanandan, the relatives and family members of the ministers and eminent personalities from cine, social and literary and social circles and thousands of party workers attended the cremony.
The CPM -led Left Democratic Front swept the May 16 assembly polls, winning 91 seats in the 140-member Kerala Assembly and showing the door to Oommen Chandy's Congress-led government that was in power since 2011.
