Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan slammed BJP and the UDF for holding an image of an anti-corruption front on the Lok Ayukta issue. CPM senior leader criticized the stand of both the parties and questioned their stand on the same issue in other states where BJP and Congress are in power. The criticism from Kodiyeri came in an article in the party newspaper.
His remark was made in the wake of UDF requesting the Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan not to sign the ordinance issued by the state government to amend certain provisions of the Lok Ayukta Act. While criticizing UDF, Kodiyeri also alleged that the BJP is putting pressure on the governor on the same matter.
Meanwhile, the CPM leader also demanded UDF leaders to give a valid explanation on the reason why Lok Ayukta Act was amended in Congress-ruled Punjab. He also asked UDF to request Rahul Gandhi and their leadership to implement the existing law in the Congress-ruled states if it is exemplary.
Similarly, the BJP leaders in Kerala are not asking the leadership to implement this law in BJP-ruled areas, he added.
“The state government does not need a quasi-judicial system to take action against corruption. The Pinarayi government has the courage to do that. There is already a proper system in place to deal with allegations levelled against LDF MPs. There are incidents when action has been taken. These decisions were not made on the request from any quasi-judicial system or the court,” he pointed out in the article.
