Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF meeting held on Friday has decided not to increase the water tax in the state. The water department had suggested increasing the tax due to the ongoing economic crisis. However, Chief Minister said it was not the right time to implement this as it would turn the people’s sentiments against the government.

Water resources department minister K Krishnankutty presented the idea at the LDF meeting held on Friday. CPI State secretary Kanam Rajendran, NCP leader TP Peethambaran master opposed the idea vehemently.

Kanam Rajendran asked whether it was right to implement increased water tax at a time when Delhi and other states are providing water free of cost.

Meanwhile, no discussion was held in connection with the CAG report. LDF Convener Vijayaraghavan made it clear that there was a conspiracy behind the leakage of the CAG report and that it has to be inspected carefully. He also accused the media and opposition of creating the controversy surrounding CAG report.
